Cocatrel, the force of the cooperation

Cocatrel – Cooperativa dos Cafeicultores da Zona de Três Pontas, consolidates itself as one of the largest coffee grower’s cooperatives in Brazil, revenue and coffee received and sold, gathering 4,200 rural producers and around of 60 cities. These producers receive all the support for their activities from the technical assistance to their crops until the coffee sales. Because of the structure offered by Cocatrel, the producers count with high level professionals and labs, the supplying of agricultural products, and special condition loans. On the most productive crops, Cocatrel can reach more than 1 million and 500 thousand “60 kilos” bags of coffee produced in South Minas, region where the high quality coffee is predominant.

Cocatrel has the storage Utz certification, and trading of the final product, with a greater ease and security, besides several types of benefits. Cocatrel is part of the 4C Program (Common Code for the Coffee Community), which emphasizes the agricultural practice oriented to the sustainability.

With basis on the principles of the cooperative, Cocatrel develops many social and environmental responsible projects. As actions of environmental protection, it has backed up the creation of the Central of Collection of Empty Agrochemical Packaging, it maintains a reforesting area, with sustainable managing for its firewood consume, and it makes the treatment of effluents of its dairy industry, an innovative project is opened for visits that also serves for the environmental education to the local schools.

About social benefits, it offers a medical-hospital agreement extensive to the cooperated families, with more reduced prices and high level of quality, privileging the elderly people. The education also has support, like in the project of Digital Inclusion, with the participation in the creation of computer classrooms in rural schools.
